Food Cravings
FacebookPinTweet

Food cravings can be a huge stumbling block.

They can be hard to control and make you feel self-conscious about your food choices, right? I know that feeling all too well.

I know what it’s like to feel like your cravings show a lack of discipline. Yet it feels impossible to “take control”.

That’s why I was so fascinated when I learned how your balance of gut microbiota can cause cravings.

Curious how that could be?

Your microbiota aren’t picky, per say, but they definitely have their preferences.

The foods you crave are often fueling specific strains of your microbiota. Think simple carbohydrates like breads, donuts, rice, or cookies, etc.

The more you provide the fuel, the more they overgrow and the more they ask for it. That’s where many cravings come in.

If you eat the foods you’re craving, you’re creating an overgrowth and imbalance of bacteria in your gut.

That’s a big problem for the health of your gut!

Your cravings may be a sign of an imbalanced gut microbiome. In which case, it’s time you take action.

You want to focus on eating foods that feed your good bacteria and bring balance back to your gut.

Here are some of my favourite foods to nourish the gut, support your microbiome, and stop cravings:

NUTS + SEEDS

Both nuts and seeds contain polyphenols and dietary fibre. They act as prebiotics to the gut microbiota. Basically, they feed the healthy bacteria in your gut and help it grow and stay in charge.

GREEK YOGURT

Fermented foods containing live bacteria culture can be extremely beneficial for your health. They add good bacteria back in to foster a healthy gut microbiome. Yogurt, kombucha, miso, kefir, and sauerkraut are some popular options.

BERRIES

The antioxidants in berries, polyphenols, are prebiotics. They create food for the healthy bacteria in your gut. This helps keep your gut bacteria balanced, which in turns prevents cravings.

Cravings aren’t a simple topic, but there’s so much you can do with nutrition to reduce them.

I’m doing a deep-dive into how to eliminate cravings in my CURB YOUR CRAVINGS [FREE MASTERCLASS] this Friday, May 15 at 4pm PST. Make sure you join.
