I love reading.

I can easily put back a book in a day and am definitely the person who brings 10 books on vacation.

However, since having kids and running my own business, I find myself prioritizing reading a lot less.

My kids love reading too, and they’re always commenting on the fact that they rarely see me read. So I’ve made it my goal to work smarter, and play harder this year – with a focus on reading 20 books in 2020.

While this goal requires me to be intentional in making some of those non-nutrition related, I’ll still continue reading books that improve my knowledge in nutrition. That’s non-negotiable!

Which got me thinking that maybe you’d be interested in what nutrition-related books I’m reading as a practitioner, in order to keep up with the trends and science.

So, the first Tuesday of each month I’m going to post the next book I’m reading along with a review/my thoughts on the last months book so we can discuss it.

Whether you’re simply curious to know what nutritionists read, or if you’d like to read along with me to know what’s going on in nutrition, I’d love for you to join me on this fun journey over this next year.

BRAIN MAKER
By David Perlmutter, MD

About this Book

This book is authored by David Perlmutter, MD, the author of Grain Brain. This book is an extensive look into how our gut microbes can heal the body, especially the brain.

Why I’m Reading It

I chose this book because it’s in line with what I believe in and focus on in my practice. I’m interested to see his take and scientific evidence behind his claims. I don’t preach it if I can’t prove it!

This is also of special interest to me because of my brain damage (post-concussion syndrome), my son’s anxiety, and dementia being in my family.

Discussion points

  1. What’s your initial reaction to this book? Are you excited to read it, nervous, or not interested? Why or why not?
  2. What was your favourite quote or passage?
  3. What’s one new thing you learned?
  4. Name one thing you already knew that came as no surprise.
  5. What’s one major takeaway you got from this book that you’re going to apply to your life?

Important Notes

The books I’ll be recommending each month do not necessarily reflect my beliefs or the way I practice nutrition. This is simply a way for us to open up conversation about what’s out there to discuss it’s validity and truth.

This is not sponsored or promoted and I have no affiliation with the author. Any opinions expressed are my own.

Stay tuned

Next month I’ll be bringing you a whole new book, with a full review of Brain Maker and my thoughts. I’d love to hear yours too! Send me your answers to the discussion questions above.
