Apple Cranberry Stuffing Recipe by Nutritionist Sharisse Dalby

Thanksgiving is right around the corner (well, here in Canada, eh!) and that means another holiday of over-indulging, wine and then the guilt.

Sounds fun, right?

Not really.

Here are a few tips to keep your Thanksgiving in check:

  1. Moderate your plate – Your plate should always be in moderation, and holidays are no exceptions. Teach your kids this young!
  2. Choose either wine OR dessert – not both! It’s important to choose where you’ll indulge and to not go crazy with everything.
  3. Make half your plate veggies – and no less. This way you’ll fill up on the healthy foods and not the more tempting calorie and sugar dense stuff. And by veggies, I don’t mean covered in cheese or marshmallows. Can I get an amen?
  4. Stay hydrated. This will help you be more aware of your hunger levels while helping your body flush out any toxins that might, ahem, be consumed.
  5. Eat a huge salad before guests arrive. Is it weird that I’m telling you to eat before you eat? Well, I am. Filling up on some fiber and nutrients will help you make smarter choices and prevent over-eating. Even the kids should get in on this!
  6. Fit in a workout – no joke. Get your family out for a bike ride, walk, run or do a strength workout before the festivities begin.
  7. Bring a healthy dish, like my Apple Cranberry Stuffing (it’s soooo good!).

Going into the holidays with a health mindset and understanding that you can enjoy foods and still care for your body is really the most important thing you can do for your health.
