Vitamin You Need
FacebookPinTweet

Do you find your supplement cupboard a graveyard of unused pills collecting dust?

Or are you just a hard no to supplements kinda gal? But with the pandemic wondering if you should take something to boost your system this Fall?

I’m definitely a believer in using food first and supplements as support. I can see why you might look in your cupboard (or at the store) and think – which of these supplements should I be taking??

September is coming. And it’s the time of year you start thinking about focusing on your health again (trust me, I know!). But this year we’ve added a pandemic, and now immune health is a top priority.

So you grab some vitamin C as your safety net. But do you need it? You probably don’t, and here’s why:

IT’S EASY TO GET FROM FOOD

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin. So your body doesn’t store it and will excrete any excess that it doesn’t need. Which means you do need to eat vitamin C rich foods.

The good news is, it’s really easy to get from food. In fact, one cup of kale provides your recommended daily intake of vitamin C.

Using food will save you money, or allow you to use your hard earned cash on more beneficial supplements.

NUTRITIONAL SOURCES

Here are some food sources of vitamin C:

  • Guavas
  • Bell peppers
  • Kiwis
  • Strawberries
  • Oranges
  • Papaya
  • Broccoli
  • Tomato
  • Kale
  • Snow peas

Try this Kale + Sweet Potato Frittata recipe for a healthy boost of vitamin C.

OTHER OPTIONS

Of course, you can always take a supplement if you prefer and sometimes it may be recommended. But do me a favour and try food first.

Vitamin C is a pretty safe supplement to take. But too much can cause diarrhea, nausea, headaches, heartburn and insomnia. You’re always best to check with your nutritionist first! I can help determine if you need it, how much, and what form is best for you.
