What Sugary Cereal Does to Your Kids Body by Nutritionist Sharisse Dalby

I’m the first to admit that sometimes cereal seems like the most viable breakfast option.

I mean, mornings are rough. As in …

R.O.U.G.H.

But those sugar-loaded, nutrient-void, commercialized cereals are not doing your kids any favours.

Watch today’s video to see what those cereals are really doing to your kids body (and what you should be feeding them instead).

Not into a video today? Well shucks, that makes me sad. It’s okay though, scroll down to read up on it.

What Sugary Cereal Does to Your Kids Body

Let’s talk about these cereals and how it actually starts your kids day off … shall we?

1. It affects their blood sugar levels.

These cereals are low in protein and fiber, yet high in sugars.

This will give them a quick spike in their blood sugar levels and make it look like they’re okay and have lots of energy – but don’t be fooled.

This big high will lead to a really big low which is a form of stress on the body and it will lead to these next two points …

2. Bring on the mood swings.

Don’t complain about your kids mood if you’re going to feed them junk, period.

Your child’s mood is connected to the foods that they eat.

It could be due to the blood sugar level spikes, toxicity, food allergies or sensitivities, etc.

It puts extra stress on the body and when your body is stressed on the inside, it’s going to show on the outside. Don’t be so surprised if your child is eating junk food and that internal stress is coming out in mood changes!

3. It impacts their ability to concentrate.

Your brain’s source of fuel is glycogen – not fruit loops.

When you eat sugary cereals, it affects their ability to concentrate because you aren’t feeding their brain.

It’s important to fuel their brain to help them learn whether they are a toddler or a college student. That is done with good quality fats, proteins, and complex carbohydrates.

Not fake sugar.

That’s no bueno.

How do you expect your kids to function in school all day if you’re going to start them off with these sugary cereals?

Instead, try feeding your kids some of these:

o Coconut Raspberry Breakfast Bars

o Three-Way Deviled Eggs

o Apple Cinnamon Breakfast Cookies

o Strawberry Chocolate Chia Bowl

o Breakfast Pizza

o Kale and Sweet Potato Frittata

o Maple Apple Pear Crumble

o Apple Cinnamon Oat Bars

o Carrot Zucchini Breakfast Cookies

o 10 Delicious Toppings for Toast

o Overnight Oats
